How do I start a clan?
Starting a clan can be the hardest part of this process. You must decide what kind of clan you wish to make, Skilling/Warring/Community/PvM/etc or all of the above. What will your requirements be? Do you have the time to invest in starting up a clan? Do you have friends to help you in this? What will be your requirements to stay within the clan?
Once you have your general idea, you should consider a name. Something creative that isn't taken by another clan. Many clans have more than one leader, you can share the responsibility of running/starting up a clan by having other friends that you can trust to help lead.
Make sure that you try out other clans before you decide you want to make your own. Creating a clan requires an organized plan and strategy. Do not act off of impulse. It is important to understand, no matter how cliché this sounds, that a clan will not grow overnight; will not grow over week; will not grow over month. A fully established and functional clan takes many months. Remember why you started your clan and maintain the confidence to work towards its success.
How do I effectively recruit for my clan?
The first thing to do is to make sure that you're looking for people that fit your clan's personality and requirements. Recruiting from your friends list is a good start and then those friends recruiting from their friends list, it's typical that your friends and their friends share similar goals and levels to yourself.
The RuneScape forums are an incredible place to recruit; PLEASE SAY HELLO IN RECRUITMENT THREAD . I do not know why so many people dislike them. Create a well-worded recruitment thread and make sure it is regularly bumped. If you feel like a certain aspect of your clan makes it especially attractive, mention that quality on the first post to get your reader interested.
Talking to players is important, adding a personal touch to the recruitment process instead of simply posting a general recruitment message. Also asking random people is nice, but make sure that you don't rush it. Spamming "Join Mod Timbo's noobs" isn't going to work very well. Make sure that you're friendly, and ask at the right places. Asking pures in f2p to join a Dungeoneering only clan is not going to work.
How can I keep my members engaged and interested in the clan?
A)Respect
Respect your clan members at all time. You will receive what you will send out. If you want them to respect you then start with respecting them first.
B) Activity
A leader has to have a certain minimum of activity not only to take care of the clan admin but to hang out with his clan members in the game as well. It gives you the chance to create friendships which will strengthen the bounds between you and your clan members.
C) Goals
Let your clan members know what the goal of your clan is and which direction you want to go with it. Only then they'll be able to help you out along the way.
D) Symbolism and pride
Being a member of your clan should be a privilege. Your people should be proud to represent your clan and don't be afraid to encourage that. Make use of flags, slogans or other to express your pride!
E) Opportunity to grow
Give your clan members the opportunity to grow in your clan. You can even arrange this so they have fun along the way. Make use of clan ranks, awards or titles for your people to grow from recruit to an honoured member of your clan.
F) Rewards
People might be encouraged to attend your events more often if there's some kind of reward associated with them. clan points for example is a way many clans use these days to reward their members event attendances with.
G) Creativity
There are many clans out there. Make sure your clan stands out which will give your members a reason to stay active in your clan. E
How do I deal with clan issues?
It does entirely depend on what type of issue your clan is going through before you decide on what type of action to take. Sometimes its better to let your staff handle it and sometimes you have to step in. Each situation is different and through time you will learn to adapt based on that. Just make sure you learn and try to not repeat the same things over and over. Don't forget that not every situation requires you to be a referee or judge, it might be better to help members through something instead of punish them.
The most important strategy of handling clan issues is remaining calm, and no, this is absolutely not easy. As much as you want to pound on your keyboard… take a deep breath and carefully compile every response necessary. Do not lose your cool, always formulate strategies to take on your challenges, and be confident that your clan will make it through.
Make sure that you hear the story from both sides and get as much information from everyone that you can. Discuss this with your other leaders, what happened, why it happened and what are you going to do about it.
WHAT IS A CLAN
Clan is a Scottish concept and as a Scot I often think what the term means. According to the dictionary:
"clan" 1. A word to refer to a closely-knit group usually quite large and fiercely defensive of each other. Comes from the clans of Scotland- who were blood relatives.
Now used more as a term for groups of video-games.
So what makes a good clan and what makes a great one? Traditionally the Scottish clan’s were a family, and the idea was of course the families stuck together (often in wars against other families - we Scots are pretty ferocious!). Families worked and played and socialised together.
A good clan skills, kills and spends time together. RuneScape is full of good clans, literally thousands of them. A great clan however, is a little more than this. A great clan go out of their way to support one person. They share things, maybe lending equipment or maybe sharing resources for the benefit of the whole group. A great clan will forgo their own gain for the sake of others.
How do we make a good clan a great clan? Well firstly we celebrate new members, welcome them as one of the family, take the time to say hello and get to know them a little. Secondly we invite them to family events, so that no one ever feels left out. No one likes to be on the edge of the family watching all the fun.
Next we celebrate together. If someone is getting a 99, we should make all effort to get there and celebrate as a group. They worked hard to earn that cape and this is never time wasted as it builds family stronger.
Family do sometimes argue, I know that, but they get over it, because it is worth getting over. They stick together when things are going well, and cling together when they are not.

WHAT IS A SKILLING CLAN
Hello and welcome to what was week one of the Clan Celebration Month. To ensure that this isn't missed, we're leaving it here as a reference.
What is a Skilling/Skilling Community clan?
Skilling, and Skilling community, clans cover a wide variety of styles, dedication, requirements and people. From the clans grinding out as much XP/hour they achieve to running a few skilling challenges to simply just grouping up to talk, relax and share game help.
It's not all about simply Fishing together or creating competitions and events, it's about creating an environment for people to enjoy themselves while playing the game. That's where a large majority of the skilling community clans come in, giving you someone to talk to, share your day with or generally have a laugh with while you're leveling your Bankstanding (or Fletching, however you prefer to call it!).
What benefits do I get for joining a Skilling clan?
Access to a wealth of game knowledge about skilling techniques, tips and secrets.
Organised, safe participation in RuneScape skilling activities like Living Rock Caverns and Stealing Creation.
Help and advice with almost any RuneScape subject.
Long lasting friendships with players that have a similar interest to you.
A supportive community egging you on to complete your goals and help you along the way.
Regular events and competitions with in-game prizes across different skill sets and activities.
Be a part of something bigger than yourself, a part of a heritage of RuneScape clans.
What do Skilling clans expect from me?
Participation in clan events.
Enthusiasm and eagerness to help out your fellow members.
Interest in skilling or the particular skills that the clan focuses on.
Maturity, being respectful and following the simple rules laid down by the clan leadership.
Certain clans will expect certain skill levels or total level, depending on what the clan does.
Have some fun! After all, it's a game and a clan is there to enhance your experience.
QUESTING CLANS
What is a Questing clan? What is a Help/Support clan?
Questing Clans - Questing clans can be an elite group of adventurers, creating a community around their love and fervor for questing. The majority of these clans require the esteemed Quest Points Cape which, in turn, requires you to have completed every quest. Some questing clans just require a love of a good story and a devious plot however so make sure you check the requirements!
Help & Support Clans - While some clans are painted under the "Help & Support" bracket, it's common that these clans are just as normal as the next. With an open clan chat comes different people to talk to and help each day and a constantly changing, vibrant community. Ranging from any type of event or any play style that you'd like to play, Help & Support clans are there not only to help but also to have fun.

COMBAT
What is a Combat clan? What is an Activity clan?
Combat Clans - There are a whole spectrum of different Combat clans that you can find out there, focusing on lots of different things. The well known Combat type clans are Player Killing (PKing) clans, Boss/Monster Hunting clan, Slayer groups and Clan Wars clans. Combat is a major part of the game and is related to almost every skill so it's likely that you'll be doing it at some point. Being a part of a Combat clan takes combat to a whole new level, now you're PK'ing as part of a war or you're fighting a boss you couldn't kill on your own or you're simply killing things while having someone to talk to.
Activity Clans - RuneScape has some fantastic activities (formerly known as Minigames) for all different playstyles. Combat, Skilling or more for a tactical mind. A vast majority of the more popular activities are team based and that is where the clans come in. Soul Wars, Castle Wars, Pest Control and Stealing Creation are only a fraction of the team-based activities that there are clans out there for. If you enjoy any of these activities, taking part as part of one of these clans will make it 10x as fun.

WHY JOIN
Mod Crow enjoys clanning and playing RuneScape with friends but that wasn't always the case. Read on to find out more about his experience with clans and how he went from a solo player in RuneScape to joining a clan and creating a whole new playing experience...
I know what some of you are thinking at the moment. You see all the events and competitions going on for clans and you’re saying to yourself, "I’m not in a Clan, what do I care?". As a regular gamer I used to have the same thought, feeling irritated when someone tries to get you to join a clan or spams you to join their clan. However, I all that changed when I decided to actually give being in a Clan a go.
I’d be wandering around aimlessly for a while trying to complete some task which was ultimately eluding me. I was about to move on out of frustration but as luck would have it two other players were also trying to tackle the same task. A swift alliance was formed when we all realised we had similar goals and within a short space of time we had all finished the task and I had two new allies on my friends list. I continued to keep in contact with these players for the next few days and pretty soon I was invited to join the clan they had recently set up. Being a traditionally solo player I wasn’t overly keen on the idea but they quickly encouraged me in with promises of cake and adventure. Sadly the cake was indeed a lie but I soon learned that the adventure part was very real.
One of the things I was really struggling with before joining the clan was how I could get involved with the various in game activities. Without the bonds of clanship or friendship you end up working in a chaotic manner with little direction. When I joined my clan though I suddenly had a list of eager allies who were more than happy to form regular groups. With an established hierarchy we could work together and what was previously a bit of a chore became a regular highlight of my gaming schedule.
With a new clan I had a list of people who I could call on forAs a member of help or in turn offer my help to them. Within a week or so of being in the clan I had completed more of my personal goals then I ever had when playing alone. I got involved in massive wars, the likes of which I’d never even considered before, and suddenly I found myself wanting to spend more and more time in game with my clan as there was so much more to do.
So why am I telling you all this? Simple, I want to help open some of your eyes to the benefits of being in a good and active clan. A clan can literally give you a reason for playing and they’re a really easy way to help you progress through the game!
